Mike Doyle, an animator, podcaster, and marketing consultant, said it best, “Gary Vaynerchuk is on fire with Linkedin Video Content. The one thing he’s doing that I have not seen elsewhere is adding a red progress bar to the bottom of all his videos. This constantly lets you know where exactly you are at any moment when watching his videos.”

Progress bars or scrub bars are a tool or feature a video can have in their social posts, stories, or adverts. Adding in this type of indicator within the video will provide an automatic engagement boost.

For those that get creative, it can also be used as a method of revealing an image or text.

Daniel Engber, even explains within a video from the TED Series how progress bars keep us sane. “Just seeing it there, makes people feel better”

After studying hundreds of posts across the web and also analyzing an A/B video test of two of the same video with and without a progress bar, we found the following;

We can estimate there is about a 31–37% increase in views on videos with a progress bar versus those without one. Additionally we found that a 3.7x increase in individuals finishing more than 75% of a video with a progress bar versus those without.

(Outside of the A/B test, we did have to consider variables like quality of content, timing and messaging, etc)
